River District Holidays, November 29th!

Join us on Saturday, November 29th beginning at 4:00 pm for River District Holidays! Event locations begin at Centennial Park and Cornog Plaza, and include: children’s activities, crafts & cider, a performance by the Southwest Florida Symphony, and a visit by Santa. The annual Holiday Stroll and lightings will be led by Mayor and Mrs. Henderson beginning at approximately 6:20 pm from Centennial Park, and will be accompanied by the Lee County Jr. Drill Team, with carolers upon the streets from the United Methodist Church. Movie in the park, “Home Alone” to begin at 7:30 pm.

This year continues to expand River District Holidays and is produced by the River District Alliance, the City of Fort Myers, the Lee County Downtown Library, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, with special participation by the Lee County Jr. Drill Team and the United Methodist Church of Downtown.

Mystery Walk Launch

Mystery Walk Begins December 12th!

Beginning on December 12th at 6:00 pm Mystery Walk will officially launch! Each Mystery Walk will have a unique theme, and the launch event, entitled “Electric Arc Light and Music Festival” will be a dazzling celebration of sound, art, and light! With three stages and DJ’d sounds from Disco to House, choreographed dancers, performance and projection art, spectacular light displays and pyro dancers, the iconic Lilly Hatchette “Paper Grotto” and fashion show, are among the many features offered. Created by the RDA and produced by Circus Arts United, the event is guaranteed to be a must see evening!

Saturday Art Fair Returns in November, December & January

The annual Saturday Art Fair begins again this November, and is looking for vibrant, accomplished artists and crafters to set up in Downtown to sell the works they create.

Decorating for the Holidays in the River District

The RDA board is excited to be underway this year with expanding holiday decorations throughout the River District. Unlike earlier years when multiple storefronts along First Street and others were unoccupied, awnings were draped with garland and bows to distract from the vacancies. Today, we now have a vibrant and near completely occupied First Street and core commercial area. Recognizing this, we will be decorating additional light poles this year in place of decorating the awnings.

However, realizing the charm the decorated awnings add, the board has arranged with our holiday decorating firm to provide the standard commercial grade garland, LED lighting, and bows as was previously done directly to merchants or property owners at our cost.

The cost at our price is $95.00 for nine (9’) feet, or roughly six (6’) feet with draping. This cost includes commercial grade products, installation, inspections three times weekly with replacement as needed of damaged items, and removal.

Sponsorships are also welcome to assist with expanding light pole decorations throughout the River District. Sponsorship cost: $125 per pole.

Decorations will be installed mid November and removed after January 1st.

Gardners Park

Gardner’s Park Pop-Up Bazaar

A soon-to-be tradition has in Gardner’s Park with the start of a weekly bazaar.
Baked goods, fruits & veggies, flea market items, arts, crafts, and many other items are anticipated to be a part of the event.

Scheduled for every Friday, year round, the bazaar will enhance the offerings within the River District and create a driven concentration of shoppers to experience the charm of Gardner’s Park.  Non-RDA event.

Downtown Art Walk Wins $15,000 Grant

For the third year in a row, Art Walk is pleased to announce winning a $15,000 Arts &     Attraction grant from the   Southwest Florida Community Foundation and the Visitor and Convention Bureau.

The grant recognizes this monthly event as a fixture in the River District social scene.  The funding may be used for marketing and advertising of both the event and the galleries included within it.   In its sixth year, Art Walk draws between 3,000 – 5,000 attendees during season and 1,000 – 3,000 attendees off-season.

This monthly event brings social activity to downtown and a tremendous positive financial impact for our merchants.   Art Walk is funded through monthly dues from River District galleries, art partners, and sponsors.
